I have no formal culinary training, except for a stint I did at a catering company in Georgia soon after I graduated college. However, I can read, therefore I can cook. Cooking was easy when it was just me: tofu and veggies, pasta, cold cuts…
Now, I have a toddler and a husband who maintains a subscription to a cookbook club. I don’t necessarily enjoy cooking, but I certainly enjoy eating, and I’m lucky to have a non-picky toddler and a spouse who likes to cook more than me.
Everyone can and should cook, especially if he or she has children. It’s easy, it’s healthy (mentally and physically), and it just makes so much more sense than buying processed or take-out food.
I’ve found favorite cookbooks and figured out the best way to serve food while raising a toddler, teaching English at the local Chicago City College, maintaining a home, and keeping the spark ignited between me and my hubby. What more could I possibly want out of life?
Powermomma, I like your tips on organizing the weeks meals. Six months ago I was a fifty hour a week carpenter/home builder, now I am a stay at home dad and student. Your tips have been helpful and been a great help with getting meals from the grocery to the table. I am still a little intimidated by my oven, however I am doing much more cooking inside. Sometimes the simplest advise is the best and selecting the recipes all at once for the week is the best I cooking advise I have got yet. Thanks Powermomma
